This is the least lounge of the collection with most tracks really more trip hop, light trance or melodic lounge - nothing wrong with - still a great collection of tracks - just so you know exactly what you're getting.

Like symbiosis, like the yin and yang, like your left and right hands, there is something both so free and passionate, yet also so technological, somewhat clinical, even precise and methodical about Villalobos and Luciano music which onlookers always suggest is a reaction to them moving from Switzerland to Santiago, Chile, this October 30th.
The suggestion that his music is directly correlated to those worlds colliding is not necessarily obtuse. Some parts minimal, deep techno and scientific electro, some parts southern rhythms and colourful melodies, making the identity of his music especially soulful as it seeps from a more alkaline space.

RICARDO VILLALOBOS / VASCO PARTS 01 & 02 (2008)

Ricardo's (chilean Dj and producer) run of form recently has been something to behold, from the all-slaying Fabric mix came the incredible Sei Es Drum series, which for our money was worth every (slightly overpriced) penny, and then the mind bogglingly simple but hugely effective 'Enfants', leaving us at this particular junction with 'minimoonstar'.

The tracks follows Villalobos perfected recipe of tricky tripping percussive shuffles and deeply padded basses only this time the mood is far more humid and ominous, with drifting synth washes and an expert application of field recordings and found sounds adding layers of depth and differing reverb spaces for another very special Villalobos experience.

Absolutely sick EP´s, very highly recommended!

DINKY / MAY BE LATER (2008)

The Chilean expat scene in Germany has produced a disproportionate number of forces in techno. Like her compatriots Ricardo Villalobos and Luciano, Alejandra Iglesias, aka Dinky - a former dancer for Peter Gabriel - makes music full of intricate detail. Her aesthetic is a fundamentally tight, minimal one, but unexpected sounds spring into the mix from all directions; every track leads the listener on a host of tangents. The effect is disorientating, like wandering through a maze, but addictive; May Be Later is an endlessly distracting album. On Burdelia alone, a demented jack-in-the-box melody plays off a cut-up vocal chant, a toy violin motif and distant rattling percussion. Fademein finds guest vocalist Jorge González whispering sexual come-ons; Dinky responds with some frankly obscene electronic squeaks. There's something to pay attention to almost everywhere you listen.

LOS UPDATES / FIRST IF YOU PLEASE THE REMIX PART 02 (2008)

These pieces by three Chilean producers on Cadenza are archetypal examples of Chilean techno (with Jorge González’s vocals).

Of course, these remixes are, for better or worse, the elephant in the room in any discussion of First If You Please. There's a second remix EP due soon and plans to collect the vinyl releases onto a CD. My advice: Unless you're looking for a twilight soundtrack for your deep-shag sunken living room, maybe it's best to wait.

BLOODY MARY AND SIERRA SAM - LANDSCAPES (2008)

In the wake of their 'Spielbank EP' for Einmaleins earlier this spring, Sierra Sam and Bloody Mary return with the fruits of their recent studio efforts. 'Day Light' borrows elements from both electro and tribal and fits them into a snappy, 4/4 techno scheme. 'Night Time' is distinguished by its eerie, ambient glow, with layers of percussion that weave together into a constellation of rhythm. Paul Ritch attempts to steal the show with his vicious remix of 'Day Light'. Like his past releases on Resopal and Get Physical, it's nearly overflowing with energy, driven by staccato snare rolls and a snarling, fuzzy bassline that cuts in and out without warning.
