Episode 84 visits Argentine songstress Juana Molinaat her ranch outside of Buenos Aires and at a live performance in NYC. In this exclusive interview, she shares her songwriting technique, her approach to incorporating electronic music and her experience as an actress on a hit TV show.
This episode features E*Rock, the musician and artist who co-founded the record label Audio Dregs with his brother nearly 10 years ago. In that time he has not only become one of experimental electronic music's most important figures but also generously contributed many, many songs to early soundtracks of Cool Hunting's videos. If you were watching back then and liked the melodic sounds you heard, Audio Dregs was probably responsible for them.
In this video, we visit him in his Portland home and studio, look at some of the album covers he designed, check out a zine he publishes, watch a few flash-based videos he directed and go on a bike ride. He also shares an unreleased track and weighs-in on headphone music, using digital tools and running a record label like an art collective.
M ss ng p eces recently traveled to Michigan to spend a few days with Texas-born musician Matthew Dear (aka Audion) before his first-ever live band performance. In between rehearsals for the show, we stroll down train tracks and do a little fishing as he shares insight into his music making process and the current culture of electronic music.
His new album Asa Breed is set to drop worldwide since 5 June 2007 off Ghostly International. Some are already calling it "the crossover album of the year."

Cool Hunting recently followed the Norwegian electronic musicianLindstrømto Studio B in Brooklyn for his firstever live performance in the U.S. The producer and founder of FeedelityPrins Thomas, we witness the experimentation and creative process as they bounce ideas off each other. Back in New York, a chance encounter with a fellow European DJ on the street leads to a conversation about the glory days of Ibiza.
During an interview he enlightens us with the thought process behind his airy synth effects and strobe light percussion. records has been gaining much attention lately for his "space disco" style. Raised on country and western, Lindstrøm quit his band and job to devote all his time to producing this danceable music. In his studio, where he oftentimes collaborates with fellow Norwegian Prins Thomas, we witness the experimentation and creative process as they bounce ideas off each other. Matthew Herbert, one of the U.K.'s most lauded, often overlooked and hardest-to-categorize electronic musicians grabbed major attention with the release of Scale (2006), a critically-acclaimed album that includes over 700 samples of ambient noises like birds, gas pumps, breakfast cereal, coffins, mobile phones and babies crying, as well as voice mails left on "Herbert's Hotline," a phone he set up for the project.
Cool Hunting Video's 61st episode shows Herbert making field recordings inside caves and up in a hot air balloon, among other unconventional locales, sits down with the innovator in NYC for an interview and catches his live show at Irving Plaza. We also get DJ and BBC Radio 1 host Gilles Peterson's take on his fellow countryman, as well as some words from Maurice Bernstein, co-founder of the New York dance party turned label and PR firm, Giant Step. The result is an exclusive look at one of the most influential musicians of today and his idiosyncratic approach—in the studio, knee-deep in the ocean and live on stage—to making music.
With bossa nova-kissed covers of vintage new wave, lilting French accents and sweetly soothing vocals,Nouvelle Vague's eponymous debut in 2004 was a global hit, providing the perfect soundtrack for romantic first dates. Currently touring with their equally charming and catchy second release, Wendy McNeill for a few games of bowling before catching their New York performance at Webster Hall. In the video you'll see their flirty live show, find out who's the best bowler in the group and learn what some of their songs are really about.
On the heels of last week's Brazilian Girls that marks their latest album's release. Crossing multiple genres, representing a mutli-culti mix of ethnicities and with lyrics in five different languages, the New York-based band resists easy definition.
Since 2006, Cool Hunting Video has followed the quartet to the studio, caught live shows, and visited backstage, capturing candid, behind-the-scenes moments with the burgeoning group. The resulting video is a portrait of a band that's as eclectic as the musicians themselves. Like always, but especially for this installment, headphone use is recommended.

Third edition of Cool Hunting Video Interviews. Mikkel Hess (aka Hess is More), makes music for films, theater and multimedia (including a recent collaboration with the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen), has a current radio and MTV hit in Europe, and plays tennis. With his virtuosic ability to play multiple instruments and love of jazz and experimental electronica, Hess creates a sound palette that is all at once original, hypnotic and timeless.
Cool Hunting Video caught up with him on the court and in the studio to discuss his creative process when he was in New York City. You can also catch his work on the Luftkastellet compilations, and his LP's.
Second episode of Nugroove, Electronic Culture. Known for deftly blending a wide range of multi-ethnic sounds, calling Brighton-based DJ Quantic a consummate crate-digger is almost an understatement. With that in mind and with the impending North American release of the 26 year-old's fourth solo album, An Announcement to Answer, we tagged along with Quantic on a recent visit to a Brooklyn record store.
There and in an interview, he shared some tips and gave us a little insight into his current collecting habits, which naturally show up on An Announcement. The disc—a laid-back journey through jazz, funk, hip hop, and soul—are what you'd expect from a musician who's traveled throughout Africa and Puerto Rico, creating and recording much of his album on the road. From playful beats laced with trumpet samples and warm guitar loops to guest appearances by labelmate Ohmega Watts and LA-based chanteuse Noelle Scaggs, the eclectic lineup is well-balanced, never boring, and plenty lively.

Welcome to the first episode of Nugroove, Electronic Culture (a original production of CoolHunting web site) an exploration of musicians who are able to expand both what we hear and think.
This episode focuses on two critically acclaimed Detroit musicians; Jeremy Ellis and John Arnold. Ellis and Arnold have been playing together in an experimental live electronic format for over a decade. On Friday 24 March 2006, during the Winter Music Conference week in Miami, Arnold and Ellis performed an eclectic set of sounds that touched nearly every style and taste—in one improvised set they manifested a sonic tour through jazz, soul and funk to latin, rock, techno, electro, breaks and hip hop.
The show took place as part of CO-OP MIAMI, an event organized by Goya Music and Amalgama at The District in Miami's Design District.
