It always feels good to arrive at a certain destination after a long journey, whilst simultaneously knowing that a new chapter has just opened. For George Evelyn aka E.a.s.e., the force behind trailblazing leftfield act Nightmares On Wax, things have come full circle.

This new album was inspired by a special journey from Evelyn’s birthplace of Leeds to his new family home located right in the middle of Ibiza. Instead of shipping all his studio equipment by boat, E.a.s.e. rose to the challenge of writing some music on a unique roadtrip. By bringing the gear, a decent sound engineer and the N.O.W. live band members in camper vans on the long journey from the UK to the Balears and with a setting that readily provided inspiration, the rapport in exchanging ideas was instant, and thus the concept of "thought so..“ arrived, from the process itself.

Jazzy Hip Hop is a fusion of alternative hip hop and jazz, developed in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Lyrically it has often been intellectual, often socio-political or Afrocentric in content. Musically the rhythms have been typically those of hip hop rather than jazz, over which are placed repetitive phrases of jazz instrumentation: trumpet, double bass, etc. The amount of improvisation varies between artists: some groups improvise lyrics and solos, while a great deal of them do not.

After Warez released his head nodding R+B/glitch debut EP, “Dance”, he headed back into the studio to give us more of what the electronic genre needs. “Sound” is jam-packed full of soul and lush R+B elements made complete by Warez’s signature arrangements.

There are noticeable hints of Royksopp, Outputmessage, Prefuse 73, Telepopmusik, Burial, Daedelus, Bjork and Morcheeba in Warez’s melodies and style all through this satisfying release.

The second volume in the El Hotel series is another rich foray into the dizzying world of Ibiza nightlife. Compiled by LA DJ and Pacha Terrace Resident Mickey the Rat, the first disc is a prize selection of world beats and bar grooves from around the globe. Its second disc offers 50 exclusive photos taken from within the famous Pacha night club, which stands opposite the Hotel. Taken over the past two years, these photos capture the singular style and glamour that is Pacha Ibiza.
