Chill-Out and Lounge are not the easiest of genres to classify. Evolving at the Café del Mar on Ibiza in the 1990s, these eclectic mixes of electronic DJ culture, Latin American rhythms and World Music elements spread their wings and went on to conquer the European club scene and eventually the entire planet. Other major components are Jazz-inspired improvisation and the spirit of Soul. What ultimately characterises this music, however, is its attitude to life: breathe deeply, allow your mind to wander and let yourself go.
